“Being from a dairy farm, I wanted to know why cows were getting sick and why they were having mastitis issues”

After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in 2012, Nicole began her employment with DairyNZ as a postgraduate student and was supported to complete her Master of Science Degree also at Massey University. “I wanted to do something that would ultimately help farmers because that is what [DairyNZ] are here for.” Both her Masters and PhD research is in the area of mastitis detection and diagnosis.

Nicole’s long-standing interest in animal health, specifically mastitis and its impact on bovine health, is the reason she undertook PhD research at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
