“I am passionate about working with farmers, seeing positive changes on farm and in the mind-set of farmers”
Mark grew up on a dairy farm which fuelled his enthusiasm for a career in the agricultural industry and for farming in a way that would leave the land in a better state for the future.
After completing university, Mark joined the Sustainability Team at DairyNZ. This enabled him to build skills in communicating with farmers, expand his technical knowledge, and create valuable contacts which kick-started his career.
In his current role at Waikato Regional Council, Mark is responsible for a team whose job it is to work with farmers to ensure they understand and are operating at environmental best practice and within regulatory requirements. A major focus of his team is supporting farmers, industry bodies and rural professionals to undertake farm environment plans. Mark regularly engages with farmers, rural professionals and other government organisations to support industry-wide collaboration – giving him plenty of opportunities to get out of the office and onto farms!
