PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

You will ideally have 3-5 years experience working as farm manager, having gained expertise in all the required elements needed for productive farm management. You will also have considerable experience of managing staff.

IDEAL QUALIFICATION

  • National Diploma in Agribusiness management, Level 4/5
  • National Certificate in Agribusiness management, Level 4/5
  • Certificate in Rural Staff Management (or similar)
  • An agricultural science / management bachelor’s degree

An Operations Manager works with the farm owner to develop strategy. They may supervise multiple farm managers and/or sharemilkers to ensure that the owner’s strategy is implemented, acting as a coach and support.

OUTLINE OF ROLE

An Operations Manager typically supervises the operations of a number of farming units within a larger farm business. These farms may be managed by farm managers and/or sharemilkers, but it is the responsibility of the Operations Manager to ensure that the owner’s strategy is implemented.

The Operations Manager works at a strategic level with the farm owner or equity partners to develop strategy, policies and procedures for the farm(s). They are well versed and competent in all areas of production and staff management. The Operations Manager often acts as coach and support to up and coming managers or sharemilkers.
